Critique!

"Creating an online newspaper, named Dhivehi Observer, to promote hatred between the people and the elected government."

This is the reason the police gave for the unlawful arrest of PH. Supposing even if it was true I don't think it is a felony in a democratic country. If this was the case US would have sued huge media giants like Newsweek and Time. They don't always publish with articles favoring the state. You can even find cartoon jokes on politicians. Infact I think Bush must have been a president for whome the most jokes are cracked on. Atleast accept the fact that opinons can differ. How far would you go?

Since love is the opposite of hate. I don't think anybody whose not benefited by it loves or support the existing government. Be known, there is a difference between love and fear. Ofcourse a lot of us fear to speak our heart and beliefs. We live in a country where we are suppressed of such acts. Now that we are shaped and fashioned by what we love it is just a matter of time we start spreading our thoughts.

"To rule is easy, to govern difficult." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

PS: For all of them who thinks that politics not for them. I have something to say to you. Just because you do not take an interest in politics doesn't mean politics won't take an interest in you.

Guilty until proven innocent

Dhiraagu Internet Systems Engineer Ismail Faiz (PH) has been taken into custody by the local police. On May 01, the police arrested him at his home for reasons that remain confidential. A young Maldivian citizen with a descent status and a highly responsible job, he has not been charged with a crime.

This is a downfall that deserves close attention in the technology community. I think the bottom line is that the state wants more power to snoop on the internet. Heard it through the grapevine they also have a tendency to hire foreign hackers to do their dirty work. We've also got situations that concentrates a tremendous amount of surveillance over the phones, residents and social gatherings.

It remains unclear why he was arrested. His friends speculate that it might be because he went to a reformists gathering and took pictures. What's unusual is that nobody with any real knowledge of the situation can talk about it. Right now, the public has almost none of the necessary details about why the police is interested in Mr Faiz.

Insignificant

In Hijri or Islamic calendar today (12th Rabi`-ul-Awwal) is the birthday of Prophet Mohammed, for this reason it's a public holiday declared by the state. I wonder why we ought to follow two calendars, both Islamic which is a lunar calendar and Julian which is an arbitrary calendar. If we are a 100% muslim country and we want to follow the muslim holidays we might as well follow it throughout the year. Atleast we wouldn't have to change it in the middle of the year.

Today is also my birthday in Islamic calendar and 20th february in Julian calendar. I'm wondering which one I should celebrate or give priority to. I suppose none.

Destroying the earth

Destroying the Earth is harder than you may have been led to believe.

You've seen the action movies where the bad guy threatens to destroy the Earth. You've heard people on the news claiming that the next nuclear war or cutting down rainforests or sisting in releasing hideous quantities of pollution into the atmosphere threatens to end the world.

Fools.

The Earth was built to last. It is a 4,550,000,000-year-old, 5,973,600,000,000,000,000,000-tonne ball of iron. It has taken more devastating asteroid hits in its lifetime than you've had hot dinners, and lo, it still orbits merrily. So my first piece of advice to you, dear would-be Earth-destroyer, is: do NOT think this will be easy. Link

Counterintelligence Calendars

I know it's not the best time of the year to talk about calendars. But this is the last place where I thought I could find calendars and posters downloadable. Link

Walk down the right back alley...

I hardly like a movie based on a comic character except for the works of the geeks; 3D and computer graphics. But this one's different, it becomes obvious that this not your average comic book movie. This is a flick that doesn't pretend that the world's problems can be squeezed into spandex outfits and all about defeating bad guys to make the world a better place. You gotta be kidding me.

No, Sin City makes all the the viscous and awful facts of the world bigger and ominous than they could ever possibly be. In doing so, it intimidates you with its constraints. The nice guys and bad guys both slaughter each other, and neither of them can be counted on to fail. In fact, the only thing which really matter is the perspective angle from where the shot is being taken.

And supposing even if you were an average hollywood moviegoer, I'm sure you'd love tits and bullets. My advice to you; go for it, you won't regret. It's only been a week since it's out and I know it won't be easy to get hold of a good copy. If you want a copy, you can contact Senn (311412). Don't tell him that I said so.
